Want to learn how to code through your grandma's lost art of knitting? The Goethe-Institut Johannesburg's latest event, 'TextILE', explores the synergy between crafts and technology – and how the likes of programming and coding relate to knitting.

The combination of technology and knitting may seem left field, but, believe it or not, the two disciplines have a few things in common. At their core, both knitting and coding involve pattern creation, attention to detail and an ability to think logically and creatively. See? Not so different after all!

'TextILE: Code, beads and yarns – a transdisciplinary approach to patternmaking' is a public event where you can learn how to code with yarn and beads, and learn about the fusion of handmade crafts and modern technology. This event is free and no RSVP is needed. It takes place on Thur, Jun 29 and will be the first of several that the Goethe-Institut will host. Email vulane.mthembu@goethe.de for more info.
