The annual Gauteng Summer Cup is Joburg’s oldest and most respected first-grade horse race and a signature event on the South African racing calendar. This is the day to come dressed in your finest - think top hats and coat tails for the men and attention-grabbing hats or fascinators for the ladies.

One of South Africa’s oldest racecourses, the Turffontein Racecourse was built in 1887 and is widely considered by experts as one of the most difficult tracks in the country. With a  steady climb from the 1200m mark to the final post, Turffontein is known for having made some of the most thrilling finishes in South African racing history. The course is also famed for its magnificent views of Joburg’s iconic skyline.

There’s plenty of entertainment on the day both on and off the track including live music performances by major local acts, fashion shows, and show-stopping performances by local drum majorettes, choirs and dancers. It's also a very family-friendly event and the race day includes a carnival complete with a giant ferris wheel, jugglers, mimes, puppet shows, face painters, clowns and a food market.

The Gauteng Summer Cup is the biggest race day of the year and Turffontein racecourse goes all out to ensure that the event is the biggest party of the season. From general entrance tickets (which includes access to the carnival area) to the different party areas, glamorous trackside pavilions and ultra-exclusive VIP hospitality lounges where you get to rub shoulders with the South African jet set and Joburg's most beautiful celebs there's a wide choice of ticket packages to suit every budget.
