Van Wyk The Storyteller of Riverlea returns to The Market Theatre this month. Written and performed by well-known South African actor Zane Meas and directed by Christo Davids, Van Wyk The Storyteller of Riverlea profiles the prolific South African author and activist Chris Van Wyk through the lens of his personal and public life, and literary contributions.

At just an hour in length, the tight production explores how Van Wyk's humorous, intimate and outspoken voice captured the zeitgeist of apartheid-era South Africa, and deeply connected with readers, from his biographies of struggle figures adapted for schoolchildren, to his anti-apartheid poetry collections, including the iconic poem In Detention
