What's happening at SANBI's gardens around South Africa

21 May 2025
South Africa is one of the most biodiverse places on Earth, home to a spectacular range of flora and fauna. From Joburg’s lush Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden to Cape Town’s iconic Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden (read our guide to exploring it here), the 76-hectare Pretoria National Botanical Garden, and the historic KwaZulu-Natal National Botanical Garden in Pietermaritzburg, there's plenty of natural beauty to explore across the country. These gems are just a few of the gardens run by the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI), which has been championing local biodiversity since 2004.

With regular travel deals, Joburgers can hop on a flight to explore these wonders – or enjoy the magic closer to home. Read our visitors' guide here for more reasons to visit SANBI's gardens.

Below is a round-up of events and activities at SANBI's locations around South Africa; bookmark this link for future travels.
