The grand Johannesburg Art Gallery has reopened and taking pride of place at the centre of the gallery is an impressive new exhibition by 2021 FNB Art Prize winner, Zimbabwean painter Wycliffe Mundopa. Titled Zva Nyadza, this brand-new body of work is a suite of more than fifteen monumental canvases elevating and celebrating the drama and exaltation of the lives of Zimbabwe's women. 

In his huge, vivacious and brightly coloured canvases, Mundopa places women at the centre, celebrating their joys and triumphs in spite of the social and political upheavals they face and rendering in bright living colour their fierce, beautiful, resilient and courageous personalities. The captivating semi-abstracted characters in his paintings reflect the conflicts between tradition and the contemporary in modern Zimbabwean life, a clash of moral codes and economic strain, encompassing the good and bad, the beautiful and ugly.
