The most well-known and largest skiing area in Koroška, Kope is positioned over 1500m above sea level on the highest part of the Pohorje mountain range. The journey up to the forested heights involves a winding road (not very well paved), passing what seems like several hundred tourist farmhouses. An often early snow (November) covers the Alpine meadows until late spring, which is perfect for downhill skiers ranging from beginner and intermediate to advanced. There are seven lifts for the diverse slopes and also a 15km cross-country trail. There is ample sleeping capacity on the mountain itself (Hotel Luka, Grmovškov Dom, Apartmaji Kope), and also a restaurant with a conservatory featuring excellent panoramic views.
