Slovenia's largest cycling race, the Franja Marathon starts and finishes in the BTC City shopping district, covering some 156km of scenic landscape in between as the route passes through the towns of Vrhnika, Idrija, Cerkno and Škofja Loka in the hilly region to the west of Ljubljana. A shorter 97km 'Little Franja' route, 22km family and school marathon and a 1200m children's competition are also popular alternatives cycling obsessed Slovenes not feeling up for full challenge. The event is an internationally recognised competition, and listed on the official calendar of the International Cycling Union.
