If you're looking to avoid the (ever increasing) hustle and bustle of Ljubljana's old town centre, but don't want to walk more than a couple of minutes, this modern take on the traditional Slovene gostilna is a great new(ish) option for refined Slovene cuisine. It's situated in the historic Trnovo district, and takes its name from the idyllic riverside park (actually a former dock for riverboats), which is a great spot for a pre- or post-meal stroll. And you'll very likely want to do both, as the portions here necessitate arriving with an appetite and require a bit of calorie burning exercise afterwards. Meat lovers will especially rejoice at the choices of veal, lamb, deer and indigenous Slovene pork on the menu, all of which can and should be paired with one of the premium local wines available. But if at all possible, save some room for dessert, as they've got some truly delectable choices - try the šmorn if you like pancakes but have always wished they could be even tastier.
