Ljubljana's Old Town: Gornji Trg

more than a year ago
One of the quietest corners of the old town, Gornji Trg (or 'Upper Square' in English, which is a bit of misnomer as it's clearly a street) has also always been one of our personal favourite places to stroll whilst out and about in Ljubljana. While a couple of popular restaurants have long been mainstays here, over the past decade we've seen numerous others come and go (raise your hand if you remember Pri Zelenem Zajcu!), each time quietly hoping, and genuinely believing that this would be the tipping point and the venerable old cobbled lane, that is all two blocks of it, would finally take its well-deserved place amongst the capital's cool destinations.

Now as we swelter away in In Your Pocket central, during the first major heatwave of the summer of 2019, dare we say that Gornji Trg's time is nigh? No, we shan't, but that's only because we gave up making predictions about the future long before the Brexit fiasco threw the United Kingdom into disarray or a certain grifting reality show star with a penchant for failing upwards was surreptitiously carried into the premises of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in the strong, manly (yet tender and gentle) arms of one Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. Wait, what were we talking about? Ah yes, there are all kinds of things happening on Gornji Trg these days and if you're still reading this, we highly recommend you go and check our some of the places we've written about below!
