Planica FIS Ski Jumping World Cup

Thursday Mar 19 - Sunday Mar 22

Planica is actually busy all year, the village of Rateče undergoing a certain level of ongoing preparation, to be ready for its time to shine every March at the Ski Flying World Championships, and the onslaught of 50,000 people. Being amongst dramatic alpine peaks soaring over 2000m, it’s the only kind of setting worthy of such an internationally prestigious ski event. As such, records have been made and broken here since all the way back in 1934. After being surprisingly shut out of the podium in 2017, this time around the Slovenian team will be looking to get back to its world-beating form of previous years. If you can’t make it to Planica itself – and tickets are likely to sell out fast – then be sure to catch some of the action in a café or bar.
