With 20 May now officially recognised as World Bee Day, the culmination of a successful initiative led by Slovenia, there's no more fitting exhibition to see this year than the Slovene Ethnographic Museum's homage to all things apiculture, the exhibition Where Bees Are Home. Presenting a diverse selection of items from SEM's own collection as well as other Slovene museums, visitors will learn how the country became known as the birthplace of European beekeeping, and get a closer look at how some 11,000 beekeepers with nearly 200,000 hives go about their business producing different varieties of honey and other products. A special section of the exhibition is also dedicated to Slovenia's famed traditional painted beehive panels.
