Beautiful Bieszczady is buzzing. It was a magnet for many who sought refuge - artistic and political - during Communist times, and the region continues to draw in and provide shelter for Poland’s creative milieu, or anyone seeking an alternative or escape to modern societal life. In fact, the entire region still exudes an element of elusiveness. Several hours by car from any large urban centre, Bieszczady retains its remoteness, and while the region is most definitely on the radar of domestic tourists, it has yet to be discovered by international travellers. At once mysterious, enigmatic, artistic and untamed, there is much to see and do throughout the region, particularly for those eager to explore the outdoors, get off the beaten path and create a bond with more ancient ways of being.
