This is one of the city’s better-known forts due to it being situated literally right in the middle of the New Zoo. Since the Poznań Society of Friends of Fortifications made it open to the public Fort 3 has actually become a popular tourist attraction in its own right. If you buy a ticket for the Zoo, a guided trip around the fort is included, or you can pay separately to skip the Zoo; standard guided tours take about an hour and cost 6/3zł, or 15zł if you're fully fit and want to literally explore every passageway (not recommended for kids). Snooping around the eerie hallways, rooms and stairways hidden throughout, you get a real sense of what it must have been like to be stationed in such a place. Also conveyed as you're marvelling at its size is just how fantastic this construction actually is, and if you multiply it by nine (18 if you want to include the nine intermediate forts that stand between them) then you realise just how monumental a task Hans Alexis von Biehler and his team of men actually had on their hands.
Open Sat,Sun only 11:00 - 17:00. Closed from October.
