This exhibition is the next instalment of the series presenting the architects and builders active in Sopot.
Wilhelm Lippke (1869-1933), a native of Königsberg, builder and extremely skilful contractor involved in the construction and remodelling of more than 100 buildings in Sopot from 1896 - 1912, the golden age of architecture in the still-developing resort city. Lippke designed modest summer houses, villas, tenement houses, as well as department stores and representative hotels. His construction company also completed projects by other architects. His works, regardless of their level, are an inseparable part of Sopot. Lippke's style is difficult to define unambiguously. One can find projects in the so-called spa style, eclectic and historicising style and Art Nouveau or even modernism in his latest realisations. His most famous projects include the non-existent Fastów department store, reconstruction of the Herbst Villa, Werminghoff Hotel, and tenement houses at 35, 37 and 39 Bohaterów Monte Cassino Street. Wilhelm Lippke was also an efficient entrepreneur. He owned several plots of land in Sopot, on which he built holiday houses or tenement houses with apartments for rent. Due to the number of Lippke's projects, the exhibition presents 22 selected objects which represent different styles and types of buildings. In addition, the exhibition presents a brief outline of the process of creating the architectural project and the urban development and infrastructure of Sopot.
