Estonian Theatre and Music Museum

  Müürivahe 12 ,   Old Town          +372 696 86 88     24 Jul 2024
The Theatre and Music Museum on Müürivahe Street in the Old Town is easily recognisable by the medieval Assauwe Tower. This historic tower features an idyllic courtyard, accessible during the museum's opening hours. Visitors can also enjoy a brief overview of the tower's 600-year history.
The current exhibition, 'Astounding Stories about Theatre and Music,' celebrates the 100th anniversary of the museum. Over the span of a century, the Theatre and Music Museum has amassed a wealth of artifacts, each possessing its own unique narrative intertwined with the lives of those who once owned them. These stories unveil a rich tapestry of emotions, from sorrow to joy, from fresh starts to bittersweet farewells, as well as eternal love and playful mischief, sporting rivalry and the pure joy of performance.
Curated for this special occasion, the exhibition showcases a selection of 100 objects from the museum's collection, each accompanied by captivating tales and imagery. For the first time in history, the entire premises of the Theatre and Music Museum have been opened to the public, granting visitors access to rooms previously restricted, such as the archival spaces and historian work areas.
The museum extends a warm invitation for visitors to join in the birthday festivities and explore the new special exhibition till August 31, 2025.
