Shrove Tuesday is the last day of winter fun and feasting before the season of Lent and fasting. On this day, people eat pig’s feet and rich pea soup, carve spinning - tops out of bone, play Shrovetide games and slide over the snow as far as they can. It’s all part of ancient fertility rituals and ensuring that the year ahead will be a good one. In the old days, Shrove Tuesday was a women’s holiday, and the fairer sex were forbidden from doing almost any work. Instead, they would go to the tavern, have a drink, dance and predict the future using the thigh bones of a pig - when that was all over they would come home and ravish their men. Not sure how much ravishing will be done at the Open Air Museum, but it should be a lot of fun at any rate. Entrance to museum €5 - 7.
