Estonian Flag Museum

  Kirikumõisa, Otepää      +372 765 50 75     more than a year ago
Otepää is proud of its history as the birthplace where the Estonian flag, which was rather subversively consecrated here in 1884 by one of the bright lights of the National Awakening period, pastor Jakob Hurt. Of course, back then the blue, black and white was the Estonian University Student Union's flag, and only became the nation's flag in 1922. This small museum on the parish grounds just over the road from St. Mary's chronicles the flag's history, from its origins to its re-emergence at the end of the Soviet period.
