This is a unique presentation of the works of famous ukiyo-e artists Toshusai Sharaku, Kitagawa Utamaro and Ando Hiroshige. The selected prints create a colourful panorama of life in old Japan, showing landscapes of the two main roads connecting Edo with Kyoto. Also depicted are landscapes in Edo, kabuki actors and pretty girls. These woodcut masterpieces show Japan in the late eighteenth century and the first half of the nineteenth century, historically called the Edo period (1600 -1858). The uniqueness of Jerzy Leskowicz’s collection is not only that it shows landscapes which are masterpieces of Japanese woodcut art, but also because they are first edition prints of exceptional beauty and value.
