Love Thine Enemy is a captivating audio theatre performance that consists of six thought-provoking stories based on the revolutionary teachings of Jesus Christ. The title of the play is inspired by Jesus’ commandment to love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. The play explores the concept of giving up personal prejudices and replacing the law of revenge with the law of love. The six stories are universal narratives set in contemporary times, with characters facing moral dilemmas and difficult choices. The author of the play, Tomasz Man, uses the teachings of Jesus to help the characters navigate their challenges. The play seeks to reinterpret well-known evangelical ideas such as “love thy neighbor as thyself” and “you shall not judge, lest you be judged.”

The series begins with the story of a married couple whose child is lost during the war. The couple receives help from their enemy to find their child, and the story highlights how Jesus’ teachings can influence seemingly impossible decisions. The story emphasizes the importance of empathy and open dialogue, even with our enemies, and asks us to consider what it means to be human. The play also features a unique musical score created from micro- and macro-sounds, with two intertwined monologues integrated into the score. The acoustic floor serves as a metaphorical foundation for the story, adding a creative and innovative element to the performance.

Presented at Warsaw's Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art, Love Thine Enemy offers a fresh perspective on the teachings of Jesus, challenging listeners to consider the radical nature of his teachings and their relevance in contemporary times. The play offers a thought-provoking and emotionally charged experience, leaving listeners with a renewed sense of empathy and understanding for others.
