This ski resort is small but very close to Zurich and perfect for beginners and families. A chairlift takes you up to the Atzmännig, 1200 metres above sea level. From there you have impressive views towards Mount Säntis. Three more ski lifts make sure the queues don’t get too long. There is a small snow park and two snowshoe trails: ride to the top with the lift and then walk down the snowy foothills of the Alps - without sinking chin-deep into the snow (1.5 - 4 hours, snowshoes can be rented at the valley station). You can also rent skis and other snow gear here. As the altitude of this resort is rather low, check the website before you leave to see if there is enough snow. Public transport takes you from Zurich to the Atzmännig in 75 minutes (S15 train to Rüti, then bus, change in Eschenbach, direct buses on weekends). From Wed - Fri the slopes are lit from 19:15 - 22:00 for night skiing.
