This architectural jewel high above Zurich lies at the edge of the forest and yet is just 15 minutes by tram from the main railway station and the lake. The view up here is thrilling, with the city, the lake and the crests of the Alps all visible from the generous veranda. The hotel is a combination of two different parts, a splendid Jugendstil building and a spiral annex in contemporary design by Zurich architects Burkhalter & Sumi. Rooms are modern and brightly coloured and all come with Nespresso coffee machines. The in-house restaurant offers excellent cuisine. No air-conditioning.
