The Museum für Gestaltung is presenting its valuable collection of puppets in an exhibition entitled Turn the Puppets Loose, which will include Sophie Taeuber-Arp’s König Hirsch and Otto Morach’s ensemble for La boîte à joujoux as well as typical puppet characters like Punch, robbers and princesses. The city's puppet theatre company was founded at the Zurich School of Applied Art in 1918, but later in the mid-20th century puppet theatre reached one of its peaks in the form of 'Fred Schneckenburger’s Puppet Cabaret'. Along with delightful original puppets of all sizes, the exhibition displays theatrical scenery, films and soundtracks as well as insights into the genre via drawings and documentary photographs.
