Atlas of Uncertainty: Transforming African Cityscapes is a project and exhibition that brings together activists, architects, artists, and social scientists to look at how people navigate urban spaces, and how these movements shape the future of African cities. The project moves from "census to senses" to locate what is missed in formal maps and more rigid forms of data collection. Through essays, new ways of mapping, visuals and soundscapes, the contributors reflect on life in the cities of Accra, Johannesburg, and Nairobi. Through their reflections and representations of migration and daily urban life, Atlas of Uncertainty examines the ways people contest and live with uncertainty in their day-to-day lives, painting African cities as emblematic of the future of urban living, with their residents at the forefront of new modalities of living.

Atlas of Uncertainty is a project of the Oxford/Wits Mobility Governance Lab and Wits University's African Centre for Migration & Society.
