Group exhibition: 'I Miss Myself the Most' at Stevenson

Stevenson's final group showcase of 2023, I Miss Myself the Most, collects work that deal with the porosity of memory. We often think we've got a grasp on the stories we tell ourselves, or about ourselves. Yet where memories are concerned, fantasy and imagination are seldom far off, filling in the gaps, embellishing, softening, changing direction, and often unconsciously so.

Imagination and fantasy are weighty and insistent, and stand in place of true remembrance. In engaging with individual and collective memories and misremembering, the participating artists unearth a world of themes from longing, to solace and reflection.

Curated by Aza Mbovane and Mosa Molapo, the exhibition takes its title from Mahube Diseko’s artwork of the same name.

An intimate confession by Mahube Diseko is the title work of Stevenson's new group show. Photo: Stevenson Gallery.

I Miss Myself the Most opens on Sat, Dec 2 from 12:00 noon–15:00. Stick around for afterparty in collaboration with P_ssy Party from 16:00–19:00.

Select publications will be on sale for 50% less at the exhibition opening, and throughout December.
Note that Stevenson closes Fri, Dec 15 and reopens on Mon, Jan 8.
