A new group show at Sandton's Artyli Gallery, See Me Twice presents a dialogue between abstract and figurative art through the works of 14 contemporary African artists.

The diverse lineup of artists includes self-taught KwaZulu Natal-born painter Sibusiso Ngwazi and Israeli-born, South African-raised mixed media practitioner Talia Goldsmith. We're also looking forward to works by multidisciplinary artist (and Asisebenze Art Atelier resident) Mbali Tshabalala, alongside Limpopo-born portrait artist Stephen Langa, and many more.

"Two worlds, two visions. African art has in the last 10 years been defined by portraiture. The entire world was captivated by the uniqueness of our humanity, our personhood, and being. Now, we find ourselves needing to be less obviously personal, more immersive. Now, it is also the time of abstraction," says cultural theorist and art critic Ashraf Jamal.

See Me Twice opens at Artyli Gallery in Nelson Mandela Square on Sat, Mar 30 from 15:00 with a talk from Ashraf Jamal. RSVP with hello@artyli.com
