One of the most popular activities in the Hartbeespoort dam area, just over one hour's drive north of Sandton. Ride the cable car up to the top of the Magaliesberg mountains for panoramic views over Gauteng. On the clearest days Joburg's skyscrapers can clearly be seen on the horizon to the south, while to the north you'll find the countryside dotted with the remnants of old mines. There are three cafes to choose from at the top - an indoor canteen-style restaurant directly next to the exit of the cablecar, an open-air bar which clings to the edge of the mountain and has the best views over the dam, and a spacious pizza restaurant, a short walk away. There are also kid's play areas and a jungle gym.
