Running clubsJoburg has a number of running clubs – and you don’t need to be a member to join in the weekly time trials (usually 5km to 8km runs). You can find a full listing of central Gauteng clubs at runnersguide.co.za.
Good social running clubs to try include: Pirates Sports Club, the Rand Athletic Club, the Wanderers Club or Randburg Harriers. The Nike Running Club leave from the Nike store at the Zone @ Rosebank and attracts a young, fast crowd. Registration starts from 17:00 and the run usually starts by 17:30 (every Wed). Choose a 3,5km or 7km (double lap) route. For aspiring trail runners, there are weekly 5km Park Run events at parks around the city.
Sports centresJoburgers are sports mad and you can get involved in everything from 5-aside football and street basketball to action cricket and bowls.
