Cape Town-based contemporary ceramist Clementina van der Walt has been making ceramics for over 40 years, producing everything from utilitarian tableware, to sculptural vessels, to figurines and architectural wall pieces and describes her artistic practice as her own personal 'search for meaning'.

In this exhibition she has focused her attention on the concept of 'abstract' taking influences from the simplicity of traditional tribal masks, the Japanese aesthetic philosophy that is centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection 'wabi sabi', American abstract expressionism and mid-century potters and artists such as Miro, Kandinsky and Malevich. The work on show covers a broad, eclectic range of items and expressive techniques including tea beakers, vases, bowls, tableware, sculptural vessels, wall platters, figurines and painted tiles.
