Sculptor and master craftsman Angus Taylor’s larger-than-life artworks and sculptures utilise traditional materials in ingenious ways to create other-worldly humanlike forms. This new exhibition, In The Middle of It, was debuted at the Everard Read Gallery in London to critical acclaim and is the artist's first exhibition in Joburg.

Taylor’s usage of materials like red jasper, hematite, bronze and stainless steel creates a body of work that is richly textured. A prime example of this unique approach to materials is his series Resistance as Nurture, a collection of eight bronze figures pushing through clouds of stone. In this latest exhibition Taylor sought to challenge himself by carving a bust from finely textured Belfast gabbro - a granite that is over two billion years old and is notoriously difficult to carve.
