When it comes to the food this is as authentic as it comes, specialising in aromatic vegetarian cuisine from Bangalore. For fans of crispy dosas (a savoury pancake made using rice and lentils) there are a dozen different options to choose from and most are vegan and gluten-free. We also love the vegan-friendly idli (a fluffy steamed rice and lentil cake) served with coconut chutney and sambhar. For a filling lunchtime feast order the 'Special Lunch Box' which comes with a mini masala dosa, two bhajis, traditional south Indian curd rice (rice cooked with yoghurt and spices) and a dessert.
The expanded space in Rivonia has also allowed Annapurni to launch their own south Indian bakery where they make a a range of bakes, pastries and desserts that are typical for the region. The bakery is modelled after the Iyengar bakeries found across Bangalore. Owned and run mainly by people from the Iyengar clan, these bakeries are famous for combining traditional British baking techniques and tastes, like buns, biscuits and sandwiches, with spicy Indian flavours. Think toasted sandwiches filled with spiced potatoes, sambals and mint and tamarind chutney or puff pastries filled with spiced paneer cheese.
