Known for deconstructing traditional notions of identity and representation, Asha Zero's semi-abstract works are dominated by images culled from contemporary media - particularly branding, marketing and advertising. Interested in notions of ambiguous identities and the practice of disguise, Asha Zero's acrylic paintings are in themselves a clever form of trickery - paintings disguised as collage. Zero' approaches his hyper-realistic paintings in the same way that one might approach collage, depicting the everyday spectacle of the human condition through graphic iterations appropriated from the urban landscape. The result is an intriguing mix of Pop Art and Abstract Expressionism.
