Thu, Jun 26: AfriMasterclass Conference
This full-day learning experience gathers big-name speakers – from former Bafana Bafana soccer player and coach Shakes Mashaba to Member of the Executive Council Lebogang Maile – to explore the creative economy, sports, tourism, and youth empowerment. Also look out for the Symbols & Mythology poetry workshop, presented by UNESCO and New Acropolis.

Curated by talented actress and director Mmabatho Montsho and Refilwe Montsho of Monday Pictures, this year's festival showcases seven short films – including four student entries – exploring the power of protest, memory, and student activism. Hosted at the iconic Women’s Jail.

Usually the grand finale of the Basha Uhuru Festival, this year the Sounds of Freedom Music Festival returns just in time for spring on Sat, Sep 13, 2025 at Constitution Hill. Expect performances from a stellar mix of rising stars and local legends, including Mthandeni, Kid Fonque, and DJ Cindo, with more artists to be announced soon. A highlight of the day: a special guest performance by this year’s Basha Uhuru Music Legacy Award recipient – the legendary kwaito group, BOOM SHAKA. Tickets are priced at R200 – R350 per person.
