Café del Sol Steyn City
Founded in 2007 by Luciana Treccani and her children, Chiara and Ryan, Café del Sol is a true family affair. With no formal restaurant background, the family poured their passion into crafting a dining experience rooted in traditional Italian values. Recipes passed down from Nonna Chiara laid the foundation, and word of their cosy Olivedale spot spread the old-fashioned way – by word of mouth.
The Steyn City branch marks a bold new chapter. Set in the estate’s City Centre, the space blends Italian village charm with contemporary design – think a bronze mosaic pizza oven, shelves of imported deli goods, and a long table made for family-style eating. The restaurant spills out onto a cobbled piazza, inviting long, lazy weekend lunches.
We were lucky to be hosted by Luciana herself, still the most gracious of hosts. The food, as ever, was exceptional. From the pillowy pizza bread and cocktails to stuffed calamari and standout pasta dishes like the gorgonzola ravioli, and pulled lamb tagliatelle, every dish was made with care. Desserts – including crème brûlée with nougat gelato – are simply irresistible.
We also love Café del Sol’s commitment to authentic ingredients, sustainable sourcing, and seasonal menus. If you are planning to visit, note that booking at the restaurant is essential in order to gain entry to Steyn City.
