Celebrated on November 2, the Mexican Day of the Dead holiday is traditionally a day where friends and family gather to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. Often taking place in a carnival-like atmosphere, festivities include the exchange of sweets and gifts, face painting and live music from mariachi bands. Outside of Mexico, the Day of the Dead holiday has morphed into an all-round celebration of everything Mexican including food, drinks and entertainment and dressing up is positively encouraged.
