Elizaveta Rukavishnikova - Code Request

Thursday Dec 6 - Saturday Dec 22       153 Smit St, Braamfontein
A culmination of Joburg-based Russian artist Elizaveta Rukavishnikova’s travels around the world, Code Request incorporates the various languages and symbols Rukavishnikova has encountered ranging from Arabic, which she learnt at the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Moscow, to pop art-like images from her favourite comic books.

Crafted over the past year, at the centre of the exhibition is a large body of painted scrolls that are unfurled from the gallery's ceilings; the installation is envisioned as an exploration of languages, styled as papyri records featuring ancient languages, symbols and scripts. Other highlights of the exhibition are a series of satellite dishes, adorned with bead and abacus to form sculptural tapestries.
