Adapted from acclaimed Swedish writer Jan Guillou's semi-autobiographical novel Ondskan, Evil is a gripping, high-intensity and challenging play that takes a full-frontal look at the heart-breaking global problem of high school bullying. The protagonist is Erik Ponti, a child hardened by an abusive step-father who is sent away to join a boarding school after he becomes the leader of a teenage gang. At this elite school Erik soon becomes the victim of sadistic institutionalized bullying from a cabal of older pupils, while his teachers turn a blind eye, eventually finding the strength and courage to stand-up for himself and other victims of bullying while also confronting his own history of violence.

Voted by a teenage jury as one of the top plays at the Imaginate Youth Festival in Edinburgh in 2016 and 2017, this is a play that should resonate particularly well with teenage audiences.
