Fete de la Musique

Saturday Sep 18 12:00–18:00
The annual free music festival Fête de la Musique, organised by the Institut Français launched in South Africa in 2010 and is always one of the most popular events of the Joburg winter. Hosted under the slogan 'Free Music For All' it offers something for everyone with jazz, pop, classical, rock, soul, indie and funk all on the programme.

After a hiatus in 2020 due to the lockdown, Fête de la Musique is back in 2021 happening on Sat Sep 18 from 11:00–18:00. This year's headline acts include BLK JKS, The Brother Moves On, Maleh, Sun Xa Experiment, Shotgun Tori and the Hound and acclaimed jazz trumpeter Mandla Mlangeni.

The festival will be presented with a new format, taking place at four different venues across Joburg and Soweto, all on the same day. The new setup means the festival can still go ahead by allowing for smaller crowds and more intimate concerts. It's also an exciting way to spread live music to more corners of the city.
