"In Altered States the artist turns her gaze to the multitude of ways, well-intentioned and misguided alike, that we seek to escape from or transform our lives."

Altered States also marks the artist's first foray into clay, seen in a series of tablet totems that playfully prod at our mortality. These new sculptures are displayed alongside swirling scrolls made with stick-on nails in true Goodman fashion, which bark tongue in cheek affirmations like "Live/Love/Life." Shown too are painterly works of sequins on canvas in a series of glittering portraits.

“I think this body of work is me trying to make peace with how there are so many aspects within ourselves. We have that innate compulsion sometimes to escape our lives but also a sincere and earnest desire to improve ourselves. We need all these things – pills, affirmations, release, and so on – to prop ourselves up,” Goodman explains. Will you like what you see?
