SMAC Gallery launches its new space at Keyes Art Mile with a brand new exhibition by Frances Goodman. Concerned with the politics of appearance and the power of the social media, beauty and fashion industries to influence how women feel about themselves, Goodman's latest exhibition interrogates the portrayal of female beauty. Raising important questions about how and for whom women dress up, pose and use makeup, Goodman presents a series of embroidered artworks and shimmering portraits made entirely from sequins that focus on the 'offstage' moments of female life.

Talking about her ongoing fascination with the boundaries of women's personal and private lives, Goodman says “I’ve been questioning whether dancing, dressing up, and performing can be a liberating act, when it’s something women do for themselves rather than for an audience.”

Opening event Sat Sep 8 from 11:00.
