For those who love a glass of bubbles as much as a cup of tea... plus five-star luxury.

You’ll be lucky to find a table for their Saturday afternoon tea buffet. This is the go-to for high-flying Joburgers who love five-star hotel service along with some of the best pâtisserie in town. And did we say buffet? Yes, you’ll eat your heart out! Enjoy a complimentary glass of bubbles at the terrace upon arrival, then indulge in an abundant display of the finest high tea treats, from sushi to freshly baked scones, and pâte to panna cotta, all while listening to resident pianist, Will Sibeko. Highlights include some of the best miniature quiches we’ve had the privilege of tasting, fantastic pistachio macarons, exquisite miniature carrot cakes and salted caramel choux buns to die for. TWG loose-leaf blends are served in delicate glass teapots and kept warm with mini-burners to ensure every cup is just right. Plus, you can enjoy your tea outdoors on the sun-dappled terrace, in the slightly more formal restaurant setting on cooler days, and even in the luxury of the plush lobby if you prefer the comfort of a four-seater couch whilst swilling your cup. They also offer a plated, midweek Afternoon Tea on weekday afternoons between 14:30 – 16:30 starting at just R345 p.p.
Price: R495 p.p.

Start with a homemade lemonade welcome drink before exploring the buffet tables that include savoury treats such as smoked salmon, sandwiches and filled croissants, as well as a variety of dips and breads and hot savoury items including cheese and jalapeno rissoles or chicken pinchos. For those with a sweet tooth, imagine a table piled high with Nuttikrust truffles, scones, and of course, what is a High Tea without a slice of cake – mango and coconut gateaux to be exact.
Price: R425 per person

High Tea is served at Liberte’. Photo: Johanneburg In Your Pocket.

For Friday afternoon indulgence

In a world where the four-day weekend is something being debated globally, Liberte’s offering fits in perfectly. Tea is served in a cast-iron pot, which we love, as it keeps the brew at an optimal temperature for longer. Tea for two is served on two elegant, silver multi-tiered stands, the first bearing the savoury selection, and the second the sweet. You can look forward to vol-au-vent puff pastry cases, roasted zucchini strips with halloumi, flatbreads, olives, and a selection of sliced cheeses. The portions are well thought through, and it’s a comfortable and utterly comforting High Tea for two. The setting is laid-back, and the whole experience suggests the start of a good weekend. A lovely option for catching up with friends in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Price: R500 for two people.
When: Fri from 11:00 – 15:00.
