The theme for this year’s Gardens of Golden City’s Summer Gardens is “where nature flourishes and serenity prevails”. Gardens of the Golden City is an annual event held in Johannesburg that showcases beautiful gardens for the public to enjoy. It was started in 1997 by Denise Voysey, Esther Townsend, and Peggy Morgan, who were all passionate about gardening. They asked local garden clubs to join in and find gardens in their areas that would be appreciated by the public. Since then, the event has grown in popularity and is now a highly anticipated event in Johannesburg. 

You can escape from the hustle and bustle of Joburg life and immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Summer Gardens 2024 season. The first event of the season took place on Sat, Mar 9 – Sun, Mar 10 at Tudor House in Bryanston. 

Houghton is the next garden stop on Sat, Apr 6 – Sun, Apr 7 at 45 7th Street. During this event, Natalie Webb will guide you through her indigenous garden, where you can admire delicate blooms, resilient succulents, and fragrant herbs that have taken root. Additionally, there will be a tea garden to enjoy not only for this event but also for the remaining two events of this season, which will take place on Sun, May 19 and Sun, June 23 at Shepstone Gardens in Mountain View. These gardens are a fascinating mix of verdant and intriguing concealed spaces, and you'll be captivated by a theatrical display of nature's wonders.

It's worth noting that this event is for a good cause, as all proceeds from the gate entrance will go to the chosen charities for this season: Little Eden and Kitty Kazz Kitten Rescue. This is a wonderful opportunity to explore and appreciate the beauty of gardens in Joburg and a must-visit for anyone interested in horticulture.
