As Johannesburg reaches peak winter Stevenson Gallery hosts a novel exhibition titled The ClubHouse, transforming its viewing spaces into areas curated for connecting, reading, listening and seeing. Before it was converted in 2019, the Parktown North space used to be a home and now the gallery has gone back to its initial design with this in mind.

The ClubHouse features work from both emerging and established designers highlighting furniture, lighting and decorative elements found within a home in three communal spaces: the study, the lounge and the dining room. The study reflects a place of quiet featuring special-edition and recent books on art and design, whilst the lounge is decorated with stacked vinyls and a turntable, and designed as a place for gathering. In the dining room, there is an installation of artist Deborah Poynton's catalogue Arcadia, which represents a venue for congregation and conversation.

The designers involved in the curation of this exhibition include the interior company Tonic Design who provided the main furniture, with JFF Plant Shop, Arrange Studio, Bofred, Ex Hotel, Joe Paine, Mash.T Design Studio, Nindya Ceramics, SMTNGGOOD x Bevan de Wet, The Ninevites and Viawax all contributing the additional fixtures and decorative elements.

Artists whose work has been included in this unique exhibition include Joburg Ash, Zander Blom, Wim Botha, Githan Coopoo, Georgina Gratrix, Ian Grose, Simon Gush, Pieter Hugo and Neo Matloga.

As part of the exhibition, there is also programming around literature, music and food, turning the gallery into a public space where all can spend time.
