Now in its eighth year, the Halaal Goods Market returns for a weekend celebration of culture, community, and small business love on Sat, Jul 26 and Sun, Jul 27, 2025 at Waterfall City Park, Mall of Africa. Expect a showcase of over 100 local vendors, all 100% halaal-certified. Book your tickets. 

Founded by Fehmida Jordaan in 2017, Halaal Goods Market (HGM) is the first of its kind in the city – born out of a desire to create an inclusive space that shows the notion of halaal isn’t only about food, it’s a way of life. That said, this market certainly shines in promoting the wonderful variety of halaal food in South Africa. It is also instrumental in supporting small, locally owned businesses.

Over the years, HGM has become an event Joburg looks forward to annually and attracts fans from all around the country too – crossing ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds. With over 70% of the products sold made in South Africa and 65% of stalls owned by women, community upliftment and ethical entrepreneurship are central to this offering. 

The 2025 edition of HGM takes place at Waterfall City Park, the grassy area next to Mall of Africa (near the main entrance and restaurant strip). It's going to be a global feast for food lovers with everything from tacos, kimbap, bunny chows, and smoked brisket burgers on offer, to Indian sweetmeats, boerie rolls, Middle Eastern dips, and pancakes. There will also be mocktail bars and delicious gourmet desserts, as well as takeaway-friendly options for those of us whose eyes are bigger than our stomachs. 

Beyond food, browse and shop a variety of clothing, jewellery, self-care product, and gifts – all made ethically and often by hand. And it's a family-friendly affair: bring everyone along to enjoy the market's kids' craft zones, open lawns, play areas, and shaded seating. "More than anything else, we want to support and promote unique, local entrepreneurs who are building businesses from conceptualisation to reality on their own. These businesses are the heartbeat of our economy," Jordaan tells us.
