Budget-friendly by comparison to similar properties and focused on that "feel at home ethos" — with premium locations close to the hearts of Rosebank and Sandton — this is a great Joburg choice. For the business traveller, these hotels are also more laid-back in look, feel and approach.
Hyatt House Sandton is located in a quiet residential neighbourhood of Sandton, off Grayston Drive, so there is super easy access to the highway and to Sandton Central with its Gautrain station.
We spent a team day at Hyatt House Sandton, enjoying the modern yet inviting ambience as we blended work with play.
The welcoming seating spaces and lounge alternatives welcome you as soon as you enter the front door. We worked from a small meeting room upstairs, filled with natural light, comfortable and sturdy chairs, equipped with basic conferencing tech hardware and attentive service. Hyatt House meeting rooms are compact at both properties, but you can break away onto a terrace for lunch or a quick catch-up and take in some vitamin D.
The standout feature of Hyatt House Sandton is most definitely its treehouse – an ideal setting for a laid-back breakfast with friends, an intimate dinner for two, soaking up the sun, or enjoying cocktails and light meals. Underneath the treehouse, there are more seating options as well as the wood-fired pizza oven that the hotel boasts as one of its highlight features.
In keeping with the name, the rooms here are comfortable, warm, and welcoming. They are also family-friendly, providing visitors with a setting where they can live like locals while having access to hotel amenities and services.
With 62 rooms, including 43 studios incorporating residential design elements and 19 suites with living rooms, Hyatt House offers guests a fully functional kitchen, working area, modern bathroom, and free Wi-Fi throughout the property. A 24-hour fitness centre, a self-service guest laundry, and the H BAR, with its Sip + Snack menu that includes premium beers and wines and is open seven days a week, are also available.
There is also a clever "Borrows Menu" with often-forgotten items like phone chargers. A complimentary grocery shopping service is available to guests staying for 30 consecutive days, and when you do whip up a meal on a state-of-the-art Smeg stove fitted in each suite, washing dishes won't be on your list of to-dos as each suite is fitted with a dishwasher too. Being a Halaal hotel, Hyatt House Sandton has a prayer room for the benefit of Muslim visitors.
Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner to the public, Hyatt House's The Medley Restaurant has a variety of tasty dishes. We indulged in the breakfast buffet with warm and cold dishes such as the standout mushroom and herb frittata. The modern restaurant set-up is attractive in the choice of colours and seating options and is suited to intimate and large groups.
Hyatt House Sandton is also a great venue space for small functions – with indoor and outdoor options.
