Joburg Zoo Festival of Lights 2021

Nov 25 - Jan 2 2022       Jan Smuts Ave, Saxonwold
The Festival of Lights at Joburg Zoo lights up every evening (except Mondays) with an enchanting festive light display, including beautiful animal-themed illuminations, that line the various walkways that criss-cross the historic zoo. Making this a really fun family evening out the light show is complemented by a night market and a packed programme of live music, theatre, and dance performances including guest appeareance by Joburg Ballet, Mzansi Youth Choir and Sempre Opera to name a few.

The festival is also a unique opportunity to explore the zoo after dark, when many nocturnal animals are most active. The lights used for the festival displays are LEDs so as not to be disruptive to animals and certain areas of the zoo will remain off-limits during the evening to ensure those animals who usually sleep are not disturbed. A selection of animal enclosures are open during the evening, specifically those around the illuminated walkways.

Visitors are welcome to bring their own picnics (strictly no alcohol) and camp chairs and there's also a selection of food and drink stalls on the night. If you are looking for gifts there's also a pop-up art and crafts market with handmade festive items such as Christmas decorations on sale.
