Joe Bullet, produced in 1971, was one of the first South African films to feature an exclusively black African cast. In 1972 it was independently released in the Eyethu cinema in Soweto and was banned by the apartheid government after just a week on the schedule and was never screened again. This special screening is the first time Joe Bullet has been shown at a South African cinema since 1972.

A mix between the suave womanising and one-liners of James Bond and the martial arts expertise of Jackie Chan’s earlier movies, complete with a retro 1970s soundtrack and legendary actor Ken Gampu in the lead role, it's a fun crime caper that has all the hallmarks of a cult classic. Cheer on Joe Bullet as he tries to protect the local soccer team The Eagles, rescue their kidnapped star players and his gorgeous lover Beauty (played by Abigail Kubeka) all the while deftly taking on a crew of gangsters in a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse. It’s all in a day’s work for Joe Bullet; the crime fighter that no one can tie down.

Watch the original 1972 Joe Bullet movie trailer here.

Showing: Sat Feb 11 at 16;00, 18:00 and 20:00.
