!Kauru Contemporary African Art, a collaborative platform showcasing contemporary art by artists from across Africa, presents And Counting, a group exhibition curated by Tšhegofatso Mabaso (South Africa) and Julia Taonga Kaseka (Zambia) that reflects on South Africa's 25 years of democracy. The exhibition includes works by major African artists working in a variety of media such as Aaron Mulenga (Zambia), David Koloane (SA), Ernest Cole (SA), Gladys Kalichini (Zambia), Ranjith Kally (SA), Sam Nhlengethwa (SA) and Stary Mwaba (Zambia).

Showcasing work taken from both private collections in Zambia and from the Johannesburg Art Gallery public collection, the exhibition reflects on the nature of archives, the way in which history and collective memory is recorded and how national identities are molded and fostered in 21st Century democracies.

In conjunction with the exhibition there are also a number of free public events:
Thu May 23 18:00–20:00, Opening event
Sat May 25 11:00–13:00, Africa Day Workshop led by Julia Taonga Kaseka on collective memory as a sharing of knowledge from selected time periods.
