The grand reveal unfolded at the Mercedes-Benz Experience Centre at Zwartkops Raceway, where petrolheads, media crews, and superfans gathered for the grand unboxing. "Creativity and innovation through play – that’s what drives us," said Valery Kasimov, the new country boss for LEGO South Africa, as the cover came off the gleaming build.
Behind the bricks
Inspired by the 1642-piece LEGO® set you can find on shelves, the crew took things to extremes. A team of expert builders spent eight hours assembling the supersized Technic Mercedes-AMG F1 W14 E Performance car using a whopping 192,937 LEGO bricks. The stats are almost as impressive as the real thing:– 5.1 metres long
– 2.2 metres wide
– 913 kilograms of pure LEGO® engineering
The result is a jaw-dropper – a sleek, aerodynamic replica that captures every curve, contour, and detail of the Mercedes-AMG F1 machine. A fusion of art, engineering, and play.
A roadshow on the fast lane
And because Joburg never gets to hog the fun for long, this monster build is going on a nationwide tour. The grand public showcase kicks off at Nelson Mandela Square from Sun, Nov 16 – Wed, Dec 3, 2025 before travelling to Durban and Cape Town, and concluding back in Johannesburg at Sandton City from Thu, Feb 5 – Sun, Feb 28, 2026.Visitors can also test their mettle with a pit-lane-worthy lineup of activities:
1) Build Station – Design your own LEGO® race car
2) Championship Racing – A high-speed ramp with proper timing tech and a digital leaderboard
3) Reflex Challenge – Test your reaction speeds like a real F1 hotshot
Plus, there’ll be a pop-up LEGO® store so you can channel all that racing adrenaline straight into your next build. Whether you’re an F1 fanatic, a LEGO® die-hard, or just looking for something genuinely cool to do on the weekend, this is pure big-kid joy.
