Please note that due to the ongoing global situation regarding COVID-19 the Makers Valley Festival has been postponed.

Acknowledging the rich spirit of creativity and social entrepreneurship found in Joburg's so-called 'Makers Valley' district, the Makers Valley Festival closes the month of March with a series of free arts-focused events including talks, art competitions and pop-up markets. The term ‘Makers Valley’ refers to the growing presence of creative entrepreneurs in the historic suburbs of east Joburg which stretch from New Doornfontein to Bezuidenhout Valley including arts-focused complexes such as Victoria Yards. Events to look out for at the Makers Valley Festival include:

Mar 26 and 27
The Makers Valley round-table discussions at the Skills Village
Held in partnership with the Wits School of Arts, Culture and Policy, this culture-led placemaking seminar sees academics from both South Africa and the U.S presenting their findings, alongside local makers and creatives.
Admission free, however booking required. To book email info@thecolouredcube.co.za

Mar 27 to 29
Night of 1000 Drawings and the Art Battle at Victoria Yards
Night of 1000 drawings is an annual festive fundraiser for the Streetlight Schools programme which sees amateur and professional artists donating one thousand A5 sketches, doodles, watercolours and drawings that are all on sale for R100 each. This fun charity fundraiser is as much about the amateur and professional artworks on sale as it is about the atmosphere and the location.
You can sign up as an artist here or book tickets to attend online at this ticket link.

Mar 28 at Fuller Park
Makers Valley Community Parade

A community parade where children, youth, residents and visitors to the neighbourhood will come together in celebration of public spaces with a colourful parade through the streets of Bertrams.
