Ex-voto refers to the votive offerings to Christian saints, devotional plaques stamped out in the shape of body parts and sewn onto the cloaks of the saints in churches by Christian worshippers.  

Contemporary jeweller Geraldine Fenn and artist Mariette Theron, whose medium is oil paintings, collaborate in this exhibition inspired by a shared love of portraiture, particularly from the Renaissance period where artists painted works depicting Catholic saints for Europe's churches. 

Ex-Voto at Tinsel Gallery exhibits different collections; the first includes canvases painted by Mariette Theron and portrait jewellery by Geraldine Fenn. Fenn's work for this exhibition is based on reinterpretations of the jewels of royalty, and conveys the opulence of that age. 

The second collection showcases pieces made in silver by Fenn and then painted over with oils by Theron. The pieces are delicate, exquisite and one of a kind, as much jewellery to be coveted as artwork to be admired.
